Bhutan festivals tour dates 2024 / 2025 – The festivals in Bhutan are annual events held at different times of the year in monasteries and dzongs. These festivals are normally held on the 10th day of the month of the Tibetan lunar calendar. Hence they are called “Tshechu” which means, “the tenth day” The Bhutanese people gather to observe the mask dances and also in addition to some folk dances. The sole purpose is spiritual that shows how good triumphs over evil. The festivals are organized to pray for the good harvest and good heath of the communities. These festivals also describe the life of the Bhutan’s patron saint, Guru Rinpoche.  It was him who started the masked dance festivals in the 8th century.

These Bhutanese festivals draw large number of  local people and tourists alike. This is also an opportunity for the families to get together and involves drinking and socializing a lot. The local people wear their finest clothes and jewelry, however more significantly it is an event for prayers and blessings.

1.How early do I have to book my tour to witness one of the festivals?

The tourist arrival in Bhutan is huge during festival time especially Paro festival (Spring) and Thimphu Tshechu (autumn). Unless you book your trip early, it will be difficult to get seats in the airlines and the desired hotels. So we advise you to book your trip at least 3 months in advance.

2.Are there any surcharges to witness the festivals?

The festivals are not organized to entertain and attract tourists but are spiritual events. Hence, there are no fees levied by the government to witness the Bhutan festivals.

We do not levy any extra surcharges if you book the normal Bhutan tour package. However, some deluxe hotels (4 & 5 star hotels) do add festival supplement charges.

3.What is the cancellation policy for Bhutan festival tours?

Bhutan festival tour cancellation policy is as follows:

  • No charge if cancelled within 45 days of the start of the tour program.
  • 20 % of the tour payment if cancelled within 30 days of the start of the tour program.
  • 30 % of the tour payment if cancelled within 21 days of the start of the tour program.
  • 50 % of the tour payment if cancelled within 14 days of the start of the tour program.
  • 100 % of the tour payment charge if cancelled within 7 days or after the arrival tourist in Bhutan.

4.Where can I get Bhutan festival dates 2024 ?

Please contact us for Bhutan festival dates 2024.

5How should I dress during the festival ?

There is no strict dress code during festivals visit however you are expected to dress decently. Bhutan is all about visiting ancient monasteries, temples and massive dzongs which serve as administrative centres. The Bhutanese people and government are very particular about what you wear when you enter these places of worship and dzongs.
We would recommend you to wear decent clothes like long pants, sleeved T-shirt or shirt with collar. You are not allowed to wear hats/caps while entering temples/monasteries and dzongs. The women folks can wear pants or knee-long skirts with collared T-shirts or shirts. You can also dress-up like local Bhutanese folks and wear Gho (for Men) and Kira (Women). There are so many out-lets where you can hire the Bhutanese dresses or your Bhutanese tour operator will arrange one for you.
