Bhutan is widely regarded as a land of natural beauty, spirituality, age-old customs and traditions, and vibrant modernity, all of which contribute to its unique appeal as a travel destination. However, what truly sets Bhutan apart is its legendary hospitality, which is deeply ingrained in the country’s culture and traditions.
Yes, its is true that Bhutan is often referred to as Asia’s best-kept secret, as it has managed to preserve its unique cultural identity and traditional way of life in the face of modernization and globalization. The country has a carefully controlled tourism industry, which prioritizes sustainability and responsible tourism practices to ensure that the natural and cultural heritage of Bhutan is protected for future generations.
The land is dotted with maroon-robed monks, ancient Buddhist temples, fluttering prayer flags and friendly smiles. Gross National Happiness (GNH) and not GDP is used to measure development in Bhutan. The Bhutanese constitution mandates 70% of the country to remain under forest cover for all times. Bhutan is not just carbon neutral; in fact, it is the only country in the world that is carbon negative – meaning it absorbs more co2 than it emits. And here’s a fun fact: Bhutan is the only country in the world where there are no traffic lights. Also, the Bhutanese use chilies as a vegetable and not as a spice. The country’s de-facto national dish (Ema Dastsi) is made up of fiery chilies and cheese.
Only a small number of visitors are allowed into Bhutan each year. It’s pretty special and, with us – Yak Holidays, you can rest assured that you’ll be away from the usual tourist trail and experience the real essence of the country, its people and its rich culture.

The royal government of Bhutan has re-opened tourism from 23rd September 2022. The visitors to Bhutan need not undergo quarantine or RT-PCR test at the port of entry like Paro international airport, Phuentsholing, Geylegphu or Samdrup Jongkhar in southern Bhutan. However, the health officials at the entry point may conduct random tests of the visitors as and when required to detect and control the spread of new COVID-19 variants.

My name is Shan, a friend of Stephanie during our travel to Bhutan from 1st to 9th April 2018. Firstly, I would like to give compliments on the tour guides assigned to us (Kinga and Tashi). Both guides are very professional in conveying the amazing culture of Bhutan.
Especially Tashi, our guide, who have spent 6 days with us. He was really careful in planning out route for our travelling in Bhutan. He also tried to show us as much activities/sites as possible each day. We are grateful that he has helped to planned out our meals according to our preference. He is really a very thoughtful guide. His explanation on Bhutan culture was also simply amazing, knowing every detail of places we visited. Personally, I really love the hikes that he planned too. Being a city kid, it is a really refreshing experience for me to hike in different area in Bhutan! I hope to go back one day with the same best travel agency in Bhutan.
Thank you Sithar for the awesome Bhutan travel experience. I am grateful that you have assigned us an experience guide Kinga and driver Kota. While on the mountain roads, I am able to see him carefully avoiding ALL the rocky areas and tries to ensure a smoother ride for us. There are really no lazy short cut moments from him at all. Apart from this, he is also helpful and careful in handling our luggage as well.
I had such a great time in Bhutan and it was really fantastic. I hope to go back again someday and of course through Yak Holidays International who are experienced and prompt in getting all documentations done.
Thank you once again and wishing you the best.
