The Phobjikha valley is the roosting ground for the rare black necked cranes in winter. You can visit Gangtey Gompa monastery founded in 1613 by the first Peling Gyalsé Rinpoche. This is the only Nyingmapa monastery in western Bhutan. The highlights are visit to Pele la pass (3351 m) and highlights of Paro, Thimphu and Punakha.

Day 1.Arrival at Paro – Thimphu sightseeing | Altitude: 2334 m | 56 Km | Drive: 1 hour.

Arrive Paro International airport (Flight to Bhutan). Your guide and driver will meet you and drive to Thimphu. On the way, view Tamchog monastery built in the 15th century by a wonder working monk, Thang Tong Gyalpo, .

Afternoon, visit to:

  • National postal museum where you can make personalized stamps.
  • Craft bazaar where you can buy Bhutanese handicraft items.

In the evening, visit to:

  • Tashichho dzong which houses the seat of central monastic body and office of His Majesty the King. The grand Thimphu tshechu festival is held at the courtyard of this dzong in the month of September.

Day 2.Thimphu sightseeing | Altitude: 2334 m.

Morning sightseeing includes:

  • Takin preserve center.
  • National memorial chorten (1974) built in honor of Late His Majesty Jigme Dorji Wangchuck.

Afternoon – Visit folk heritage museum. Then visit the school of 13 arts and crafts of Bhutan (Zorig Chusum).

In the evening, witness the archery match at Changlimithang stadium.

Day 3.Thimphu – Punakha sightseeing | Altitude: 1242 m | 76 Km | Drive: 2 1/2 hours.

Morning – Drive to Punakha valley:

After lunch, visit to Punakha dzong built in the 17th century by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal.

In the evening, enjoy the walk across the longest suspension bridge of Pho chu river (160 m).

Day 4.Punakha – Wangdue Phodrang – Gangtey | Altitude: 3000 m | 75 Km | Drive: 2 hours.

Morning – Hike to the beautiful Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Choling monastery at Yabisa village.

Then drive to the beautiful Gangtey valley. On the way, a short stop to view the majestic Wangdue Phodrang dzong built in the 17th century on the command of Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal.

While in Gangtey, visit Gangtey Gompa monastery, an important Nyingmapa monastery built in the 17th century.

Later in the evening, visit to the black necked Crane information center.

Explore the beautiful Phobjikha valley.

Dinner and overnight in Hotel.

Day 5.Gangtey – Paro sightseeing | Altitude: 2200 m | 178 Km | Drive: 5 hours.

Morning – Drive to Paro. We occasionally stop on the way to take photos. Lunch will be served on the way.

Afternoon – Visit to:

Day 6.Paro sightseeing - Hike to the Tiger’s nest monastery (Taktsang) | Hike: 4 hours.
