Day 1.Arrive Paro & sightseeing | Altitude: 2280 m.

Day 2.Paro (Hike to the Tiger’s nest monastery) - Thimphu | 72 Km | Drive: 1 1/2 hours.

Morning – Hike to the spectacular Tiger’s nest monastery (Paro Taktsang).

  • 2 hour hike till the monastery. The main temple was built around Guru Rinpoche’s meditation cave in the 1684 by Gyaltse Tenzin Rabgay.

Afternoon, visit to:

In the evening, drive to Thimphu. On the way, view Tamchog monastery built in 1420 by Thang Tong Gyalpo.

Dinner and overnight in Hotel.

Day 3.Thimphu sightseeing | Altitude 2334 m.

In the morning, visit to:

  • National memorial chorten (1974) built in honor of late King Jigme Dorji Wangchuck.
  • Dupthop lhakhang one of the few surviving nunneries in Bhutan.
  • National library, stocked with ancient Buddhist manuscripts.
  • Painting school where traditional art is still kept alive through instructions in the art of painting Thangkas.

Lunch at Simply Bhutan museum restaurant. You can practice archery, witness traditional Bhutanese dance, visit to the folk heritage museum and many other activities.

  • Tashichho Dzong, seat of the national government and the central monastic body. The famous annual Thimphu festival is held here in early autumn.

Day 4.Thimphu – Punakha sightseeing | Alt. 1242 m | 76 Km | Drive: 3 hours.

Morning – Drive to Punakha valley via Dochu la pass (3140 m). A short stop at the Dochu La pass to view Higher Himalayas. The colorful annual Druk Wangyel festival is held here on the 13th December.

Drive further to Punakha and on the way, visit Chimi Lhakhang.

  • This temple was built in the 15th century by Lama Drukpa Kuenley. It is also known as “the Temple of fertility”. It is the main highlight of honeymoon tours in Bhutan.

Morning – Hike the Gangtey nature trail which is a short hike with a beautiful view of Phobjikha valley below. The hike is for approximately 3 hours.

  • Visit to Gangtey Gompa monastery built in 1613 by Gyaltse Pema Thinley, the grandson and mind reincarnation of Pema Lingpa. The present Abbot, Kunzang Pema Namgyal is the ninth re-incarnation.

Afternoon, visit to:

  • Black necked cranes information centre and explore the Phobjikha valley.

Day 7.Gangtey – Thimphu sightseeing | 142 Km | Drive: 4 hours.

Morning – Drive to Thimphu.

Afternoon – Hike Sangay gang view point to Kuensel Phodrang loop. You can enjoy the great view of the Thimphu valley below. The hike is for 2 hours.

In the evening, free to explore Thimphu market.
